Popsicles, playground time, and a little back-to-school help

Hey there,

We wrapped up summer with a camping trip to Cape Hatteras… a trip that almost didn’t happen. Sawyer broke his foot the week before, and we were sure we’d have to cancel. Friday he got his boot and the all-clear. Saturday morning we hit the road.

One day we set out for Ocracoke Island, where Blackbeard met his end. An hour’s drive to the ferry, a three hour wait, and an hour on the boat later… we grabbed dinner and waved the white flag.

On the way back I insisted on seeing the “wild” horses. Which turned out to be a fenced-in pasture. That quick stop made us miss our ferry by two cars, and the next boat wasn’t for another two hours. So we watched the sunset from the line, crossed in the dark, and drove the final hour back to camp. Around 10:30 I told Erica, “This island took out Blackbeard. Why did we think we’d fare better?” Looking back, it’s a story we’ll laugh about for years.

The rest of the week was slower in the best way. We barely made it to the beach… the kids lived at the pool instead… and we tried our hand at crab fishing, to no luck. The crabs of Hatteras remain undefeated.

Now we’re home, the crab pots are traded for backpacks, and another school year is here. Before the fall routine takes over completely, our team wanted to do something simple: get together with the people who make this business what it is. This Saturday morning we’re hosting a Back to School Bash at A Dream Come True Playground… no agenda, no sales pitch, no signup. Just come say hi, let the kids play, and grab a popsicle on us.
