Hey there,

Summer is flying by, and our family just got back from another Red Wing Roots weekend.

One of my favorite moments happened Friday afternoon. We set up a projector to watch the U.S. soccer match, figuring maybe a handful of people would join us. Before long, around 50 festival-goers had gathered around to cheer together. People we’d never met were celebrating every goal, high-fiving complete strangers, and for ninety minutes it felt like we’d all known each other for years.

Moments like that are why we keep coming back.

The first time we attended Red Wing, our oldest, Azra, was an infant wearing tiny hearing-protection headphones. Since then, our kids have grown up running around Natural Chimneys, discovering new bands, and making memories with friends. This year we finally upgraded from tent camping to our camper, although our youngest apparently decided he’s outgrown the naps we bought it for.

At one point he skipped that nap entirely and took off across the festival in full meltdown mode while I followed behind trying to look like I had everything under control. As people looked over, I braced myself for judgment. Instead, they smiled, cheered me on, and told me, “You’re doing a great job.” I just raised my fist in solidarity and kept walking.

That pretty much sums up Red Wing for me. Incredible music, a little chaos, and a community that genuinely looks out for one another.

That’s also why I built Red Wing Planner… a tool our family wanted for ourselves, and it was a blast seeing so many people out there using it all weekend.
