Sales are up! This is great news for people looking to sell their home. As you can see from the graph, home sales are at a 4 year high in the month of June.
Now why are the sales higher? There are a few possibilities. We could be seeing the market continuing to improve since the crash. Or, we could be seeing an increase of sales in reaction to the slow start of the season (popularly attributed to the late winter).
Most likely, we are seeing a combination of both. Let’s compare June with May.
As you can see, more houses were sold in June than in May. In addition, May of this year seems to be following the same upward swing as June.
Overall, June 2014 house sales are up 14% over house sales of June 2013. However, year to date sales are still 7% lower than the previous year. If sales continue to rise, we may be able to reach last year’s sales.
